If I Could Have Dinner With a President by James - October 2017 Scholarship Essay

If I could have dinner with one U.S. president, it would definitely be President Ronald Reagan. I would choose President Reagan because of the magnificent economic growth he sparked, the millions of jobs he created to tame unemployment, his foreign affairs during his presidency, and other significant events he had throughout his life.

One of the most astounding accomplishments President Reagan is remembered for is the enormous economic growth America had throughout his presidency. President Reagan was able to drastically reduce the rate of inflation during his presidency and reduce government spending. Additionally, President Ronald Reagan was able to create millions of jobs after a spike of unemployment to help stimulate economic growth throughout the country.

Furthermore, President Reagan did an excellent job handling foreign affairs throughout his presidency. President Reagan was able to curb the Soviet Union and helped end the Cold War. President Reagan’s influence throughout the Cold War led to the collapse of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of Germany.

In addition to his accomplishments as president, President Reagan lived a very interesting life, and I think it would be amazing to have a conversation with him. President Reagan was once in the United States Air Force and served during World War 2, and he also was an actor in Hollywood before becoming the Governor of California. During his presidency, he luckily survived an assassination attempt in which he was shot and came very close to death.

Given these points, if I could have dinner with any U.S. president, I would definitely have dinner with President Ronald Reagan. President Reagan is one of the most accomplished presidents the United States has ever elected. In fact, both of his elections were won by a landslide of monumental proportions. He was able to stimulate tremendous economic growth during his presidency, created millions of jobs to help decrease unemployment significantly. President Ronald Reagan had great successes in his foreign affairs, and he lived a very interesting life. I think it would be an honor to sit down and have dinner with one of the most interesting and arguably greatest presidents of all time.
