Why I Chose to Major in Finance by jake - April 2025 Scholarship Essay

When I get to college, I'm going to be studying Finance. I'm learning this major because I've always wondered how money works, how businesses grow, and how people make good money decisions. Finance is a skill that appears to be useful to my professional and personal life, and something that I can always work to improve on.

During high school, I worked two summer internships in accounting that consolidated my interest. I enjoyed how choices made were of such overbearing importance to an organisation. I enjoyed the element of finance being all about numbers—finance is really about creating strategy, making choices and helping individuals maximize whatever they might have.

I also like the adaptability of a finance degree. No matter if I end up working in corporate finance, investment banking, or my own company later on, the skills that I am acquiring will be usable in any profession. I like knowing that I will have choices and be able to go with the flow of whatever happens.

Finally, I want a career that will challenge me intellectually, engage me in interacting with other people, and be beneficial. Finance appears to be the right place to help me realize those desires.
