The Cheesy Philosophy by Jake - November 2018 Scholarship Essay

“If you look hard enough you will find the good in anyone.” Now I know this may sound cheesy but it is a philosophy that I would recommend living your life by. I am super involved in high school so I have interacted with many different groups of people. I’ve interacted with cocky jocks, band geeks, preppy student council kids, nerds, class clowns, and any other type of high school students. All groups have their advantages and disadvantages, but every group and person I’ve ever interacted with have some good in them. One group that generally has a bad reputation is football players.
Many people believe that football players are jerks, arrogant, and get into trouble. I personally played football and interacted with many kids who partied, drank, got high, cheated on their girlfriends, and other illegal stuff. However there was not one teammate who I didn’t get along with. There was one kid in particular I remember who got into trouble and was known as a jerk. He had a short temper, drank, partied, vaped, and probably did a whole bunch of other illegal stuff that I didn’t even know about. After we played a couple seasons together we got along very well and gave each a hug after our crushing loss in the quarterfinals. We got along because when I met him I treated him with kindness, respect, and love. I firmly believe that if you treat anyone this way they will be happy. In the end doesn’t everyone just want to be loved? This guy who is known as a jerk is actually a good person if people only treated him with respect perhaps maybe they’d see that.
I’ve taken many rigorous classes in high school, but this philosophy is by far the most important thing I’ve learned. Being around a diverse group of people has taught me to appreciate every individual quality in each person. I know because of this philosophy I will get along with people better in college and my future career.
