The Importance of Education by Jaimy - September 2020 Scholarship Essay

My biggest goal for this school year is to receive a good education while staying healthy. This goal seems vague and bland but this is honestly how I felt.

We are currently living through a pandemic and our priority should be being safe. As much as I wish to remain safe and healthy, I wish to learn even if it's through an online environment. I understand how privileged I am to be healthy and have access to education through this pandemic as people are not only losing their lives but their education as well. Understanding this privilege, I don't want it to go to waste. There are so many people affected by this global pandemic and it's heartbreaking seeing how many lives are being lost.

As a Biology major, I intend on entering the medical field in hopes of providing assistance when a global pandemic like now, occurs again. I believe that what is happening now is a lesson to learn from. Rather than complaining that I can't attend social events and gatherings at school because of COVID-19, I want to use it to my advantage to help me focus on school and my education.

I emphasize on my education because I want to be someone that not only learns but also someone that educates others. Education is essential during this time period and people don't realize it. We need education to be informed on how to stay safe and healthy. The reason why I want to receive a good education while being healthy is so that I have the knowledge and ability to educate others and influence their lives positively.
