The social studies of life by Jaime - October 2016 Scholarship Essay

I've never really had an interest in subjects such as math or science. And surrounding myself with peers who were more than excelling in these subjects was such a regressor for my self-esteem. Being simply average was never enough and so putting a large amount of pressure on myself, I forced myself into ignominy. I've always found myself focussed on more creative subjects such as art or music, finding my previous art teachers to be very helpful and inspirational. They've provided a great amount of positivity and I've always found comfort in being in an environment with such proficient craftsmanship. Being apprehensive about finding a more scholastic subject to find an interest in, I had found myself engrossed in many social study subjects on numerous occasions.
I was surprised to be able to find an academic subject that I was interested in as much as I am with fine arts. From history to psychology, I've grown a love and appreciation for the criteria involved in each subject. My spirit lifted each time I switched classes, knowing I was headed for a class I would learn some fascinating material in. I enjoyed learning about prehistoric time periods and what life was like before I existed. I lived to learn and understand how the great world we live in came to be in classes such as AP world history. Each day in anthropology I would become heavily immersed in the class, with classwide discussions and anthropology related films I enjoyed this class to the greatest extent.
Having such great history subject teachers, I would be honored to have the opportunity to become one myself. I would make sure to have academically compelling class discussions and thought-provoking subject criteria with hopes to maintain an attentive class. I have aspirations to have a class as immersed in the subject matter as me. To anticipate becoming more knowledgeable in whatever information being taught that day. To become a teacher of social studies content would be the job of a lifetime.
