The Impact of National Honor Society by Jaden - December 2019 Scholarship Essay
In my junior year of high school, I was accepted into National Honor Society. The time I’ve spent in National Honor Society has had a great impact on me socially and academically. I participated in open houses, local fairs, animal shelters, and road races. Honor Society has allowed me to feel more connected with my peers and I have made new friends through the program. Joining National Honor Society taught me how much fun it can be to participate in my community.
One of the ways National Honor Society has impacted me the most is socially through volunteer activities. I’ve committed multiple hours to volunteering at local events sponsored by my town’s Chamber of Commerce, including some at my own school. As a result, I’ve gotten the chance to interact with my community and meet new people. Volunteering for my town has shown me a whole new side to it I didn’t know existed. Our Calamari Festival and Blessing of the Fleet race were both extremely enjoyable to be a part of, I met so many new people and had so many new experiences. In addition to meeting new people, I have strengthened my relationships with other Honor Society members. I got to know my classmates better by working on service projects and open houses with them. National Honor Society has given me the opportunity to develop myself socially by meeting new people and enriching already established friendships.
Another significant impact National Honor Society has had on me is academically. Staying in Honor Society required me to keep my grades up and taught me the value of hard work. More often than not, I would ask my teachers for extra credit work to boost my grade. I found myself trying harder in all my classes and encouraging other students to do the same. By ensuring I understood what was asked of me and requesting clarification when I did not, my grades saw immediate improvement. I started to use my time in school and at home more effectively, going to see teachers for extra help during a free period or after school. National Honor Society taught me how important it is to give my all in everything I seek to accomplish.
Taking part in National Honor Society has impacted me the most throughout my high school career. I have benefited both socially and academically from my time in Honor Society so far. Being in National Honor Society helped me learn that I enjoy volunteer work and I plan to do more community service in the future. During my college career, I hope to further participate in my community and make lifelong connections. National Honor Society has allowed me to develop skills I will use throughout my life.
