Ambition by Jaden - January 2018 Scholarship Essay
As human beings, we strive to find some meaning, some purpose in our lives to make sense of our absurd and indifferent world we live in. With this, many of us focus on education and pursuing our dreams and aspirations to distract us from our cruel world. Yet what does "pursuing" our dreams even mean? Most students blindly learn and fill themselves up with useless knowledge. Without having resolve to accomplish your goals and ambition to do better, there isn't any significance in exhibiting more knowledge. Salvador Dali, a surrealist that I learned about, once said, "Intelligence without ambition is a bird without wings." The expectation of following your goals must be met halfway with your own personal ambition which is why it is so important. This is why the word I chose for this question, is ambition.
I choose to go to college because I want to create some meaning for myself. For whatever dreams I want, I truly believe that, settling for mediocrity and not trying to get more than I already have is dumb. I wish to attend to college, not because I want to learn more --though I do-- but because my ambition leads me to. Throughout my life, I've seen so many brilliant students, so many intelligent and smart kids, feel content with where they were at and stop trying. It honestly pained me to see that the potential that these students exhibited could've brought them anywhere in the world and done great things but there negligence and lack of resolve led them to halt their progression to greatness. This is why ambition is key to success. You can't succeed without trying, and trying coexists with ambition.
So, honestly, going to college for me is a way to prove that I have the mental capability to do better and not settle for lesser. That I have the ambition to become a successful and amazing person in this world. I want to leave a mark and a legacy. I want to be more than just ordinary. I'm going to college because I have ambition and I will fulfill it. I will yield to the call for better.
