History in Our World by Jadelyn - November 2021 Scholarship Essay
George Santayana once said, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” Our generation and the generations before us have learned from our past and have become resilient in our struggles and experiences. Our world is continually growing in multiple aspects of life. Throughout history, there have been countless monumental moments. Our generations are built and grow from teachers that teach us basic skills along with the characteristics of America.
American life is based on the six ideals of liberty, equality, democracy, individualism, unity, and diversity. History has repeated itself and will continue to do so. But every experience is individualized and the diversity in our country makes it unique as years go on. Each person is different, but we are built from the ground up with these ideals in mind. We, as Americans, have learned from our past and continue to make the world a better place.
Our schools are continually changing and growing in technology. We have learned what teaching skills work and do not work. Just like history has taught us. Our teachers along with history lessons help shape who we are as individuals and as a society. But not everyone is blessed with passionate teachers who love to lecture and teach about our history.
History needs more emphasis in our schools. It is important to know where we come from and how we have learned. But we continue to make mistakes. We continue to learn. We continue to grow in all aspects. George Santayana once said, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” I’m an American citizen and I know American history.
