What led to me choosing to majoring in Aeronautical Science by Jade - February 2024 Scholarship Essay

There are three main experiences that have led to me wanting to major in aeronautical science.

I want to start off by saying that I want to become an airline pilot. I want to become a resource for others especially other young colored female like me who are interested in becoming a pilot.

My interest in majoring in aeronautical science started with my love for being at the airport. I always find myself to feel at "home" when I am at the airport. I love watching airplanes go by, walking from terminal to terminal looking at the departure and arriving times of planes, and using Flightradar24 to see the travel path planes took to reach their destination.

The concept of flying has also always interested me. When my physics teacher and CTE Aviation teacher explained how airplanes fly, it made me realize that I am very interested in planes. It also made me want to learn how to fly a plane. I am amazed by how it is possible for l an object that weighs hundreds of pounds to be capable of staying up in the air. I also love to travel and meet people from different countries and different cultures. Being able to meet people from all over the world is something that I really love doing something that I want to continue doing for the rest of my life.

After going on my first EAA Young Eagles introductory flight, I knew that choosing a major which would also allow me to fly and fulfill my dream of becoming a pilot would be the correct route for me. When I was in the air I got a feeling of happiness and excitement I had never felt before. That Is why I chose to apply to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University to further my education and be able to also do what I love at the same time.
