A Home Schoolers Teacher by Jacqui - July 2014 Scholarship Essay
Being home schooled leaves a student with the obvious answer of their mom or dad when the question of what teacher has positively affected their attitude towards education is addressed. My situation is just that exactly. My mother was my school teacher until fourth grade. There are multiple ways she has affected my attitude positively towards education. For starters, I'd like to mention consistency. Can you imagine raising seven children and homeschooling them all? My mother is this very moment. If that doesn't scream consistency, I don't know what does.
In order to manage being a mother, wife, and teacher, it takes serious dedication along with a choice to stay consistent with what lies ahead pertaining to all those areas. There are many ways in which my teacher (my mother) has affected my attitude towards education in a positive way, but I'd like to focus on how her consistency made the biggest difference. My mother has taught me from kindergarten. Every morning we would have a schedule of chores along with the schoolwork that needed to be completed. I may not have appreciated it then, but there aren't words to describe how grateful I am that she stayed dedicated to my siblings and my education. Headed into college I have my doubts about staying on top of my school work and not giving up. That's the moment when I remember back to when my mother taught me every day, whether I wanted to give up or not, she didn't.
My mother taught me a great deal about sticking with my education and how important it is. I don't believe I would even be going to college if it wasn't for the example I had before me showing me it is possible to overcome the trials that education may bring. It's definitely a challenge, but not one that I can't overcome with a little consistency and positive outlook.
