My 10-year career plan by Jacqueline - March 2020 Scholarship Essay
Since I was 10 years old, I became interested in movies. My dad and I would binge watch classic films over the weekend and it amazed me. My dad was into action films and he would put them on, such as Kill Bill Volume 1, Point Break, and The Terminator, etc. I fell in love with these films and I dug into more genres of films. One film that caught my attention was Pulp Fiction by Quentin Tarantino, and it made me feel like a rush. I was fascinated by how the characters were portrayed and the writing/dialogue was brilliant. After watching the film, I wanted to watch it again and again. I honestly feel in love and I decided to look up Quentin Tarantino’s films and I was glad I introduced myself to his film world.
As I went into my teenage years, I got into Rated R movies such as Hangover, Pineapple Express, Taxi Driver, and Silence of the Lambs, etc. I would watch YouTube videos of the actors or directors' interviews. To study and have a better understanding of the acting, writing, directing material of the film. I came to realize that maybe I want to be an actress, director, or writer in a film. I love movies and I want to do something about it. As I entered into my high school years, my interest in movies had expanded and I made a decision of wanting to pursue my career of being a director, writer, producer, and actress in movies. I feel inspired and motivated to reach my dream and if someone or something stands in the way. Nothing can discourage me, because it’s my dream and goal to become a director and hopefully I become the first female director to win an Oscar in my 10-year career plan.
