One Great Teacher by Jacqueline - July 2014 Scholarship Essay
Teachers have many different effects on their students. Some teachers can make students dislike learning, while others may inspire their students really try to do their best in school. Throughout my years in school I have been fortunate enough to have many teachers who really made me feel important and like I could learn any information they put in front of me. When I think of teachers that I had in the past who really had a positive effect many teachers come to my mind, but one really stands out more than the others, Ms. Misener.
This teacher really stands out in my mind because not only did she try to make me feel like I could do any work that was put in front of me, and that in the future I could continue with my education and become whatever I set my mind to. I had her multiple times between my freshman and senior years in high school. The first class that I got to have Ms. Misener for was algebra two, and after just the first day I could tell that I was going to like my teacher. Later in high school I got to have the same teacher for trigonometry and I also got to have her supervise me as a math mentor. Throughout all three classes she kept me motivated and believing that I could do the work that needed to be done.
Another reason that Ms. Misener really sticks out in my mind when I think of teachers who have had a positive effect on my education is because not only did she help me and look out for me, but I know for a fact that she has had the same effect on many of her students, and even the staff that she works with, throughout her career. She cares more about her students than any other teacher I have ever known. All through my school career I have liked math, but this teacher took the time to really make me love math.
