Making the Most of a Gap Year by Jacorey - August 2019 Scholarship Essay
A gap year is really important when transitioning from high school to college. I would make the most of it by not traveling just to go on vacation, but to experience different cultures. Learning their languages, the type of food they eat, or just their economic status can help me decide on what major I want to apply for.
In a gap year, I can also apply for internships so I can get experience in the work field. Getting this experience can show me what to look forward to in my career field, or even decide if I want to have that certain career. Internships are beneficial, because your possible future employers would already know you. This can give you a head start in your career. Internships in general are good, because it shows that I utilize my time learning during my gap year.
Another way I could make the most of my gap year is just simply working and saving my money. Many students could never pay for their full four years of college, because they don’t have enough scholarship money. They would have to get student loans just to pay for the rest of their education. In order to prevent that, I would work and save money through the gap year.
In conclusion, I can make the most of my gap year by doing many different things, just as long as it benefits me for college.
