#ILovethisGame by Jacob - April 2025 Scholarship Essay

As the newly minted slogan of the PGA declares #WeLovethisGame I can honestly say that is how I feel and why I am always eager to be a part of any PGA event or opportunity.

I was accepted into the PGA's PGM Business Program at University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. I choose this major because #IlovethisGame.

Commitment to the community means using my passion and knowledge for the game of golf and sharing it with people, kids to adults. Offering them a chance to learn a new sport; develop a love of the game; network and meet others in their community.

During undergraduate and beyond I will find opportunities to participate in efforts that could impact the community in Colorado Springs, my internship locations, and ultimately my first job out of school. After graduating, I see my business degree in combination with the PGM degree as a unique opportunity to integrate the two to identify opportunities for the community through golf instruction and event management that would allow for skill development and fundraising.

As a PGM professional, I hope to be a part of camps for amateur or junior golfers and running events at golf courses like tournaments, clinics to benefit the course and its patrons. I see an opportunity to offer intro to golf for those in and around the course to learn this amazing game and network with other members of their community. Fast forward twenty years, I see a partnership between big brand names in the industry, Callaway, Titleist, Trackman sponsoring up-and-coming and new to the game individuals. In addition, creating sponsored spaces to practice and play with peers. These partnerships and spaces would allow for the creation of special golf opportunities to further enhance the community.

In twenty years, I also hope to be a business owner, a golf related business or golf course. I see my business leveraging these partnerships to offer sponsored community events. My business, the new spaces, and events would create jobs and access to this incredible sport. These opportunities allow for individual growth, business growth, and community cohesion, all benefits to the community-at-large.
