Thank You Math by Jacob - February 2025 Scholarship Essay

Multiple subjects in school have influenced my passion for learning and sparked my intellectual curiosity. There have been multiple subjects I have liked throughout my education, but the main one that has always consistently been my favorite has been math. Math is so wide and varied, there are multiple different forms and varieties of it. Ever since I was first introduced to math in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, I have had a passion for it. I first started to like math when we were introduced to times tables in elementary school. The reason why I grew so fond of math, was because of the challenge and patterns that came with it. Math repeats a lot and there are multiple patterns in it, which I see as a challenge to decode or solve. Whenever I see a math problem that I know how to do, I get excited, because I see it as a puzzle or challenge that needs to be solved. On the other hand, there are also parts of math that I do not like. For example, when I do not know how to solve a problem or don’t understand a subject. Also, I don't like when I have to remember and apply formulas in math equations.
Overall, math has had a major effect on my education and my academic pursuits. It has helped to influence my drive towards school and my education. Thanks to math, I have been able to gain the knowledge to further lead me in school and my education. I have taken multiple advanced and college classes thanks to my advancement in math. Math has shaped my academic goals for the future by making me want to further my education by going to college and getting a doctorate. Thanks to math I have found something in school that I enjoy and that makes school enjoyable for me.
