Non Profit Organization by jacob - February 2020 Scholarship Essay

If I where to start a nonprofit organization I would create a free tuition Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gym. In high school I discovered I had loved the sport of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, however the gym fees alone for the sport are well over two thousand dollars each year. That's not including competition, uniform, and transportation fees. I had to beg my parents for rides and work full time to afford training everyday after school. I eventually received my black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, but with many financial hurdles to overcome. Jiu Jitsu has given me so much in my life, confidence, courage, discipline, respect, the list goes on. I feel like if I removed some of the financial hurdles for kids or adults drawn to the sport, I could really make a difference in the world. I feel as though young men in our country and in many other countries are experiencing a lack of purpose or meaning in there lives. This organization would reignite their life with purpose and create better men in our country. I also feel as though women have the highest propensity to learn this martial art correctly, as they cant get away with muscling techniques. I think children can gain the most confidence in there learning ability through this sport. At first everyone starts off knowing almost nothing, but one or two years in you start moving well and executing techniques in live training. This can give children and teenagers confidence in their ability to learn something new, even if it seems difficult at first. Everyone can excel in the sport, men, women, children, of all different demographics, cultures, and income levels. Off the mats we might not have all that much in common, But when We train together we become a team. Anyone can benefit from this martial art, so I would offer free tuition training for anyone who's looking to better themselves. Law enforcement can learn to be more confident In there line of work. Inner city kids can stay away from social traps like drugs or gangs. Women can learn to defend themselves from sexual assault and domestic abuse. Children can gain confidence to confront bullies and stand up to adversity. Young men can learn a thing or two about respect and honor. Racism and hateful prejudice can be washed away by the friendships and exposures made on the mats. Im already starting this project as we speak offering the lowest tuition in my area for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes. Accepting this essay will help make this dream a reality, As I need to study for the MCAT and get a good job to help support the non-profit someday.
