My Presidential Dinner by Jacob - October 2017 Scholarship Essay
If I were to dine with any president in history, I would without a doubt pick Abraham Lincoln because of his honesty, stories, and empathy.
President Lincoln I feel would be a great listener at the dinner table. He would also be able to provide great stories about his profession as a lawyer or the wars he has taken part in and he could also bring up topics that have the potential to create hour long conversations. Conversing with Lincoln would be a great honor not only because he was a President of the United States, I feel as if he would effectively give responses to your conversation. Lincoln would not tell lies, he has integrity which was shown during the Civil War when the South bashed on his ideas. This is also why he has the nickname “Honest Abe.”
Being able to eat dinner and converse with someone who will not lie to you is a very special occasion. Lincoln was known for his honesty and wanted to see the best in everyone. For this reason, I decided to dine with Abraham Lincoln. I see him being a completely transparent person, who if I ask questions or need advice, he would be able to provide me with a honest and trustful response.
Not only would President Lincoln be a great person to receive honest feedback from, I feel as if he would be a fantastic storyteller. Lincoln would be able to tell stories of the Civil War, his involvement in the Black Hawk war, and the numerous speeches he wrote in his lifetime. I would want to get an insight on Lincoln’s emotions and thought process during the Civil War when the South was turning against the country. Not only would Lincoln be able to tell me stories about his lifetime and the impact he had on our nation, I would be able to inform him of the political stance and presidential history during my lifetime.
Lincoln, also known for his heavy heart would be able to feel empathy and actually care about what I have to say. This is a rare feat, due to the fact that most people nowadays are fake and will show fake sympathy. Lincoln, I believe would do anything in his power to help someone struggling.
Dining with Lincoln would be an honor and a unforgettable experience.
