Aerospace Engineering by Jackelynn - December 2023 Scholarship Essay
Ever since I could remember, I would stare into the clouds, admiring the beauty of the endless
possibilities of the sky. The clouds, stars, birds, contrails, airplanes, and satellites adorn the
multitude of colors of the sky. Man-made birds have always been of interest to me. 10-year-old
me could not comprehend how we evolved from living in caves to crafting thousands of ponds
that could fly.
Aviation is an important aspect of society. Within the same lifetime, my grandparents
experienced the space race in real time and were able to fly across the country. The
developments in this field allowed society to progress and explore the mysteries of the world. I
aspire to be the cloud in the sky that will make progress in aerospace engineering.
Aerospace engineering will allow humanity to go beyond our limits through space exploration, aviation developments, and social improvements. Humans' best qualities are our creative desires to keep improving and going further. Because of this, we were able to send a man to the moon in 1969 and even hypothesize how planets are made in 2023. Aerospace engineering will allow us to appreciate the beauty of Earth and the mysteries beyond in the galaxy. Although life forms outside of Earth are not confirmed, it will be through my major that we will discover the mysteries of life and continue exploring the universe.
Moreover, aerospace engineering allowed us to travel faster and more efficiently. In the span of a couple of centuries, we went from navigating by sea for months to cross the ocean to traveling by air within a few hours across the world. Because of the developments in aerospace engineering, we were able to create efficient ways to enjoy other cultures, spend time with family, and even aid refugees such as in the Berlin Airlift. Aviation developments have allowed us to move forward into a world of interconnectedness and will only continue improving.
Aerospace engineering will lead us to the future, one that I hope to be part of.
