American History by Jack - August 2018 Scholarship Essay
The subject that will be discussed on today's podcast will be on American History. Often not discussed enough, American History is a crucial subject to understand since it gives us Americans insight on our past and how to avoid past mistakes. The history of America is very important for American citizens to learn because it lets Americans know where a lot of the modern day traditions came from, as well as how decisions made decades ago effect the modern world. Trends have always been apart of history, especially American history. It is often said that history repeats itself, and on multiple occasions this has happened in American History. While in two different countries and time periods, the links between the Vietnam War and the Iraq War are quite similar in that they were fought on foreign soil, extended way longer than expected, and ended up costing Americans a fortune to fund. Another example would be the "Great Recession" of 2007 and the "Great Depression" of the 1930s. Both of these time periods were preceded by periods of prosperity, followed asset bubbles, and had sharp stock market declines right after the crashes. The similarity of these examples are the reason of why Americans should educate themselves on American History so they can avoid past mistakes and negative trends of American History. Also, Americans should know of why certain areas of America have completely different cultures. Most of this is due to America being a "melting pot" containing races and cultures from all around the world. America as a whole is very diverse and is rich with culture in every part of the country. American History details when and where these different cultures and races came to America, along with the reasons why they came to America. The more Americans understand the history of America, the better they will understand the issues that face it today, as well as the great traditions and cultures that diversify it.
