Work Ethic does not Discrimate by Ivy - July 2024 Scholarship Essay

I used to think that others who succeeded around me were just born with the gift of work ethic. They would effortlessly get A's in all their classes, maintain all their relationships and live a balanced life while I was lagging behind. I didn't think that work ethic was something you could develop so I blamed my poor habits on something that I just "don't have".
Recently I was given the chance to further develop my education and attend a university. This changed my whole world. I couldn't go on the same ways I was going on and succeed in academia. So I got two jobs to pay for my tuition, don't get me wrong I started out dreading the idea of doing so much, working 10am to 1am, but my education is worth it to me. I was a careless student and jealous of those succeeding without me but it has made me realize that if something is worth it to you and if you value yourself, you will do everything possible to make your goals happen.
So while my best friends were balancing soccer, getting 5s on their AP exams, and making time to hangout they weren't just naturally gifted to care more than others; these things in life were just important to them and they put in the effort behind the scenes to succeed. Now I know that it is possible. You just have to believe in yourself enough. It doesn't matter how bad you started or how daunting the journey may seem. Anyone can achieve the things they want if they want it bad enough.
