Education's Shaping of Me by Isaiah - December 2014 Scholarship Essay
Education has shaped me into the student I am today. Education has not only taught me useful facts and knowledge, but has also taught me how to learn. Education has been important throughout my life, in more ways than one.
Throughout my education, I have learned important facts, such as the derivative of 4X² + 3X -10 and the capital of Montana (8X + 3 and Helena, respectively). This part of my acquired knowledge is important. These sorts of things are what education is generally made of. Most tests require the remembrance of such menial facts. These facts are meaningful, but even more essential is the second part of acquired knowledge: the ability to learn.
Being able to learn by yourself is a crucial factor of continued mastery of subjects in future years. Once you have grasped this key ingredient to learning, future learning will be a simplicity. Critical thinking, as this skill is often called, makes a student more flexible when learning new information. A teacher will especially like this student, for they will be able to concentrate their efforts on those students who are not understanding information as well as the critical thinker.
Education has shaped me into a student that not only knows the facts, but is able to gain new knowledge when the opportunity rises.
