Communication by Isabelle - December 2017 Scholarship Essay
I currently am enrolled in a project based school, so to me when I hear the word project it isn’t a surprise. At my school many of our projects are group based, and for the last 3 years I have realized that the most important strategy to be successful in a project is communication.
I have personally seen groups sink or swim simply based on the fact if they communicated. Again group projects are made up of several people and when they all try to take their ideas into different directions the project usually doesn't end up well. A group need to be able to meld together and act as if they are one mind. Without communication this all falls apart.
Like the saying the goes when you make a mistake learn from it. I learned how important communication was through a failed project. At the end of freshman year my group and I had a project to create a storybook for children. We had divided the work into parts, but we hadn’t communicated well. When we had finally came together to put the book together we found a problem the story was written for full length paper and the pictures were on half sheets. This caused the words to come off the pages. We had no time to fix it so we had to turn it in as such. In the end I believe we received a C on the book. From then on I realized how important communication was and now whenever a project is assigned I make sure to have everyone on the same page before we begin.
Being successful for a school project is based on how well you can communicate with others and is also important in every other aspect of life from relationships to work. I am glad that I learned this important lesson so early on in life; it is now a skill I can lean upon in practically every other aspect of life.
