Repetition, Repetition, Repetition by Isabelle - May 2016 Scholarship Essay
One of the most important things to remember when studying is that a single study method does not work for everyone. As a senior, I have learned some of the best and worst ways to study for a range of different exams. From quizzes to finals I have learned that the best method of studying for me includes repetition, repetition, repetition.
When I was in the eighth grade I endured the hardest class I had ever taken in my Jr. High years: Pre-AP English. My teacher Mrs. Kuhlman would give us vocabulary tests of 75-100 words to learn and take a quiz on every other week. At first, I attempted to memorize 25 cards each night and when I got my test back I was astonished to find a paper filled with red marks and a large “67” sitting at the top of my paper. So the next week I decided to switch my strategy to writing each term down and drawing a picture thinking a visual image would be more beneficial. While this method worked better for me, an “80” was still not good enough. With my final attempt I tried looking at all the words every night from the moment I got them until the day of my test and was proud to finally see my 100 waiting for me on my paper.
Repetition, repetition, repetition is the method that works for me because it allows me to learn each word, each question, or each concept and never forget it. Going over each question multiple times causes the idea to become engraved in my mind like the lyrics to my favorite song. Repetition, repetition, repetition is already a concept people are accustomed to because that’s how we’ve learned several simple things. Such as how to use the bathroom. Parents force their child to go over and over until eventually they can go on their own. Repetition, repetition, repetition is how babies learned to say their first words of “mommy” or “daddy” and is my key when preparing for each exam.
Visual aids or minimal glances may works for some people, however it certainly does not work for me. Being a senior, I have mastered my study skills and have continued to maintain high grades in all my classes using this strategies. Repetition, repetition, repetition will never fail me and will continue to be my go to study method once I reach college.
