Economics by Isabella - February 2024 Scholarship Essay

There have been many times when I've switched around my major. I had gone from wanting to be an engineer in middle school to wanting to go to medical school in my junior year. This constant switching every year led me to realize that I hadn’t figured out what I wanted to do with my life. I hadn’t found what I liked; I only knew what I disliked.
In sophomore year, I was taking AP Capstone where my group decided to ask, “Are NFTS a valid currency?”. I hadn’t gone into topics such as this one as I thought I wouldn’t be interested but learning about various cryptocurrencies and the market was something that opened new doors.
I was in charge of researching the political effects it could have and I enjoyed learning about various economic policies different countries have.
This led me to research “Does NYC corporation’s corporate governance affect their tax aggressiveness?”. I had a great time learning the various economic models that are needed to calculate these things and learned how to find EFT to calculate my tax aggressiveness. I was slowly starting to get really into this field yet I didn’t know that I could have a career doing this until we did our subject selection and I figured out I could take AP Macroeconomics. This is when I knew I wanted to study economics in college and I’ve been glad to find my path.
