A Course that Should not be Chosen by Isabella - January 2023 Scholarship Essay

Cooking is like a skill, you don't have to be good at it but you should always try. In my town taking a Culinary class was mandatory throughout middle school. Although, everyone tries hard to forget about middle school. The hardest 3 years of your life, why would you want to think about a Culinary class you took in middle school when you were young and distracted? Cooking is probably one of the most important things to at least have background on for your future.
Ten to fifteen years from now you could be married with kids, living in your own house or apartment. You most definitely will not be able to live off of ordering out every night. Eventually you are going to have to at least try to cook a meal for your family. I know from my experience, my stepdad is a lot better of a cook than my mom. Though, my mom does have a few recipes she has started to perfect over time so it's more so something that they take turns doing depending on the meal that is being made. My mom is known for burning any bread she puts in the oven. From my perspective it’s really not that hard if you took the time to learn what you're doing and how to use the appliances you're using. Many recipes are hard to perfect the first time, especially if you have all this stress on yourself hoping it comes out just right for your family and friends.
Having a mandatory Culinary credit as a graduation requirement would truly benefit a lot more people than you probably think. Once students hit junior year so much changes, everyone starts to take life a lot more seriously than they did before. Not being so young and distracted during a class where you are using dangerous appliances is also really important. Middle schoolers mess around a lot, they'll just get mad if they aren't doing something right and won't try to fix it. High school students on the other hand want to do the best they can at everything they do because they want the best for their future. They’ll take the time to listen and pay attention when it comes to being taught how to use appliances or reading the steps for the recipes etc.. Many people don't realize how important the safety and focus of cooking is. Cooking will always play a really big role in everyone's future. Having at least one Culinary credit required throughout high school will be more beneficial than you know.
