The most beautiful time of day: night by Isabella - January 2019 Scholarship Essay

“I am not a morning person" is something heard quite often, and I would definitely have to agree with this statement. I am a member of the dance team at my high school and we have practice four days a week for four months at 6 o'clock A.M. Whenever I say that I wake up at 5 A.M. for dance practice people are usually horrified. After 4 years you would think I would be used to it, but I'm not sure anyone could get used to waking up that early. Considering it is so hard for me to release myself from the warmth and comfort of my bed during the school week, my brain sure loves to wake up at 7 A.M. on the weekends… which is the only time I would normally get to sleep in as late as I want. These reasons are why I am absolutely not a morning person.
If you ask me, I’d say I am a night owl. During the school year, I would consider 4 o’clock P.M. until about 4 o’clock A.M. night time, mostly because it starts to get dark outside at 4:30 P.M. during the winter. And at this time, when I get home from school, I like to sit down on my couch and watch my favorite show, The Office, which is on from about 4:00 until I go to bed. Though when I have homework, I get all of it done at night because I’m the most productive at night and I have more energy than in the morning.
Whenever I don’t have school, I can easily stay awake until at least 1 A.M. Because like I said, at night I have the most energy. In the morning I’m sluggish and can be a bit moody, but at night I’m happy and fun! When one has plans with people when are those plans? At night! You go on a date at night, prom is at night, weddings are in the evening/night, you come home after a long day of work/school to see your family at night.
Imagine laying in the grass outside on a summer evening and the air is starting to cool, and you’re looking up at the setting sun painting its reds, oranges, and pinks across the sky in an abstract but beautiful image. You’re listening to the sounds of cicadas, crickets, and birds chirping around you. Then finally when the sun can no longer be seen above the horizon, you see the millions of stars above you arrayed in endless constellations across the cloudless, dark night sky, accompanied by the glow of the moon and the smell of a distant campfire among the fresh cut grass. Night time is beautiful, possibly the most beautiful time of the day. At night you can wind down... or you can turn up. Night time is mysterious. You can adventure and play. There are endless possibilities at night.
All of these reasons show that night is superior to morning. Therefore showing that I prefer night to morning, making me a night owl.
