Leading by example by Isabel - January 2024 Scholarship Essay

The biggest contribution I have made to my community is to set a positive example for younger students in my school and community and show them that everyone is in a position to be a contributor through service and setting a good example.

Through my involvement in school activities like band, sports, student council and BPA, I am dedicated to participating in a diverse range of activities and am committed to being a positive role model in an attempt to inspire my peers. I strive for good grades, I encourage others and cheer at our games, I volunteer and attend all the events our school has. I want to participate and be active so that I show others and those younger than me to the importance of balance, passion, and involvement, and encourage others to pursue their interests and contribute to the community. If everyone shows up and participates most of the time the event will be more successful.

For me, to engage in all the activities and organizations in the school and through our community partners allows me to have a role. It shows my peers that they can make a difference to. It lets them feel included and empowers other students to show up and care about their community. I have played a roll in organizing events, promoting inclusivity, and building school spirit, which contributes to a positive school environment.

Being part of sports teams and student council, I try to demonstrate leadership and teamwork skills. I am one of the only girls in my class in volleyball and basketball. To work with other grades and girls show my team and my school my ability to work effectively with others and lead by example, which contributes to a positive and collaborative community.

Academic excellence is important to me and my family. As a female student, I want to show younger girls that they can strive for a strong academic record and be in any extracurricular activities they may want to try. This reflects positively on them, school, and community. I try to inspire others to prioritize education and strive for success. Being involved in student council and creating events that will engage our school and community is service work that directly impacts the well-being of our community and gets the entire town engaged in the heart of our small town... the school.

My commitment to being a positive role model and actively participating in diverse activities ensures that I will continue to be an asset to my school and community. Being a leader and promoting healthy habits and putting my best foot forward will allow me to inspire others to aim high and be a well balanced individual who participates in events and advances ones community.
