Virtual Reality: Unlimited Possiblities by Isaac - February 2018 Scholarship Essay

Technology has influenced education from the beginning of civilization. From the abacus to the computer, technology has been beneficial to the humanities advancement. We are furthering our knowledge and development of technology every day. I believe that an integral part of our education in the year 2038 will be virtual reality devices.
Virtual reality devices will, eventually, allow us to learn anywhere at anytime. The classes will be programs that can be downloaded on VR devices. These programs could be rented like books at a library and then returned. Public Schools could provide every student with a VR device so everyone has access to them. VR could improve children’s understanding by giving them brand new experiences every day.
The classroom could also benefit from using virtual reality devices. Giving students these VR devices will help them stay focused through active learning. Teachers will no longer be bound by their classroom and when they go on field trips they will never have to leave the room. Teachers could take students to the places they are studying like the Magic School Bus. An architecture class could study the Roman Colosseum. An environmental class can dive into the ocean and study blue whales.
Some people are bound to where they live either due to financial or medical situations. These people don’t get to experience the world as others do and virtual reality can help them. Someone who has lost their legs is able to walk again through VR. Someone who has always dreamed of traveling to the rainforest can explore the Amazon. The possibilities are endless. Virtual reality can even help train people. A medical student could watch simulated operation and learn the procedures without endangering someone's life or using cadavers. VR can teach pilots how to operate aircraft. Technology is the key to our success and our advancement as a society.
Virtual reality will definitely be an integral part in our education by the year 2038. Education is the key to how we advance as a society because it is our children who will take our place. Children should learn as much as possible before they mature. They might even enjoy school because everyday is a new adventure with virtual reality. However, no one really knows what will happen by the year 2038 so all we can do is do our best every single day. Who knows how far we will advance by 2038.
