Passion: The Real Divide by ireland - July 2019 Scholarship Essay
Any student can be driven, work hard, or get good grades. It's a fact of the school system. For the most part, we as students are given the opportunity to succeed in school through a variety of class options and circumstances designed to benefit our futures. But, the real quality that separates an ordinary student from an extraordinary one is passion. Passion is defined as a strong and barely controllable emotion. Passion in education can be a variety of things- a passion to learn, a passion to succeed, or a passion to build and prepare for your future.
To me, a passion for education means all these things. I have always felt this strong and uncontrollable emotion in relation to school. Personally, school is a place where I can be challenged and involved for countless hours a day-including class time and homework. I am passionate about wanting tolerant-whether it be the quadratic formula and how to apply it or the repercussions of the Civil War. Metaphorically, my mind is dehydrated and looking to soak up every last drop of information I can get. This builds my passion to succeed because I am competitive and driven to always do my best. A passion to succeed stems from the desire to build and prepare for the future. To me, the future means college, career, then a family. I need to succeed in school now to get into a good college, where I need to work hard to get a degree for my career, which I'll need to be financially stable in supporting my future family. My passion stems from knowing what I want and how to get there.
Passion for education can mean whatever a person wants it to mean, but having this passion is what will separate those who want it from those who need it. "It" can be defined in a myriad of ways- to me it is building a future. What is it for you?
