State 2012 by Inna - December 2013 Scholarship Essay

This was the competition our dance team had worked all year for. Each school comes to prove what they have and our team had gone unnoticed for long enough. Waking up almost every day at 5:30 AM and having practices after school, dance team had become our lives. So the day we stepped in that filled arena we were ready to give it our best.

Strutting to our spots on that freshly swept gym floor with the lights shining on us and the judges watching every step was when we felt the excitement rush over us. However, it was after we preformed that hip hop routine when we looked up to see everyone cheering and our coaches screaming for us that we realized how far we had come. Each step may not have been perfect, but one thing was sure, we had put our heart and souls into that routine. We truly became one that day.

When they were announcing our category, the entire team held hands in a circle, and when they called out the second place team, there was a moment of silence, either we won first place or we were going home with nothing at all, and none of us were expecting what was to come next. We were definitely the loudest team that day after we had won first place and we couldn't stop shaking and laughing and crying for the entire night. This was a day we will never forget and shows as long as you work hard, anything is possible.
