Most Important Lesson Learned from a Teacher

While there was always a lesson that a teacher told that was important, even if I did not think it was at the time, there was one lesson that I did listen to. You know how every year in math class, we would have students complain about how the work was not useful in life. I even did it, but I just do not say it out loud. This one year, I guess this teacher had enough of the complainers, that she would add real world scenarios that had to do with the lessons she taught. She helped teach me how important education is.

After a few weeks of hearing our complaints, one day she decided actually to have a talk with us about education. She told us that learning is essential in life, and if we did not learn in life how were we going to survive out in the real world. She talked about how maybe you will not use all this math, but it might be used by some of us in this class, depending on the occupation we pursue in life. The one thing that got to me is when she said isn't better to gain knowledge than to be out on the streets, or in the house bored. I do not know why out of everything she said, that stuck in my head. I guess it was because I realized that if I were not in school, I would probably be out on the streets getting in trouble. I realized that school was a place to help me stay away from trouble and focus on things I want to do in life.

After that day, I change the way I learned. Before that day, I just went to school to pass the class, not caring what I learned. Now I like to learn, even if I do not pass. I like to get as much information that I can so I have as much knowledge as I can. Now I am in college, and I can see that I need to study to learn and remember. When you go to college, it is just not about passing because the things you learn from your major will be applied in life.
