What I Want to Do With My Future by Imani - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

It's always a child's dream to be just like their parents, for they want to grow up to be just like them. Well, that's not the same for me. I want to be just like my grandmother. She was a great cook and was known to make delicious food for the family. I grew up watching her in the kitchen while my sister and brother were playing in the other room. I sometimes helped her and I fell in love with cooking.
Since then, I always found a way to help in the kitchen. I loved the sound when something was frying on the stove. I always remember when my grandmother allowed me to make my first meal by myself. I made breakfast for my family and everyone loved it. I eventually gained everyone?s trust and started making meals on my own. This made me fall in love with cooking even more and I knew that I wanted to do this for the rest of my life.
One summer, though, tragedy struck as my grandmother died. Everyone was devastated and sad, for no one knew who were going to fix the family meals. After high school, I want to go to college for hospitality management and go to chef school. I want to be a chef and own my own restaurant, fixing family recipes while keeping my grandmother?s cooking alive. All the while, I can cook some recipes of my own
