Human Body Table by Imaan - November 2025 Scholarship Essay

After COVID hit, I assumed that school wouldn’t be the same. I am a student who loves taking paper notes and I prefer physical handouts over website URLs. I rolled my eyes as my mom did a quick drive by to pick up my new, assigned school Chromebook. From that point onward, my educational experience transformed. While I refuse to ditch paper notes and physical study materials, I will acknowledge that technology has given me more opportunities to learn as a student.

This year, I started a medical assisting program. I am in my senior year of high school, and this program alone will allow me to graduate high school as a registered medical assistant. I was excited for this program prior to starting, I knew it was going to be rigorous but I was going to be learning about things that I am passionate about and interested in. One thing that didn’t occur to me was how I was going to be learning both the textbook knowledge and the clinical tasks. During my first week of class, we went down to the lab to go over procedures and equipment. Laying there was a huge white table covered in a white tapestry. It looked like an ordinary table, but it was in its own secluded area, so I could tell that there was more that meets the eye. After my teacher went over the basic equipment, she walked over to the table and lifted the tarp from on top of it. It was an Anatomage table. An educational tool that has electronically scanned cadavers that are used to study anatomy and bodily functions. It is an interactive 3D digital cadaver that my class has access to. So far, we have studied the heart, vital signs, and respiratory systems with the Anatomage table. It is incredible to be able to identify, dissect, and alter parts of the body my class is learning about so that students can gain a deeper understanding of the human body. My educational journey has shown that only knowing the definition of something isn’t enough. To reach a high threshold of understanding, students must conceptualize the material they are studying. The Anatomage table has done that for the medical assisting program, and I am extremely appreciative for it. My favorite use of the Anatomage table was when my group and I were analyzing heart rhythm to identify bradycardia and tachycardia. All we had to do was press a button, or drag an attachment and the heart would beat faster. We got to note and witness pulse changes and how it affects the longevity of the heart muscle. My classroom experience so far has been what it is supposed to be. A chance to dive into a journey of understanding, and I am grateful for technology for enabling experiences like these.
