STEM Subjects by Ilia - February 2024 Scholarship Essay

I remember there were nights when all things in my life seemed uninteresting. All I wanted to do was just sleep, closing my eyes from the whole world. Each day I woke up uninspired and my energy felt like gone. It went on for the whole week. Until one night, I realize that my life is not yet over.

I pulled all the hope I had and reflected on my past. I had participated in a computer science degree. I have tried hotel management. I even joined the French military service for 6 months. Well. This time, life has offered another chance which I cannot waste. I must keep going. I remembered again things that sparked joy in my life. One of the few is physics class.

The next morning, I decided to keep on brushing my preparation class so that I could get myself enrolled in a community college in Seattle. That inner power and decision helped me to cast away the cloud of depression. Then, I decided to pursue a bachelor’s degree in STEM, especially in physics.

I like physics because it teaches me a lot about how this world works. It also helps me to understand more about the universe. Additionally, I have a keen interest in climate change. Enrolling myself in Seattle Central Community College, my last 2023 summer term GPA was 4.0. I have transferred to the University of Washington and my today's goal is to learn every day and complete my degree. I believe that I can help humanity on a broader scale with the experience and the degree I have. Someday, I wish to create a business in the sustainability industry or to work decently as a photonics or medical physics engineer in a company.
