Building Homes For The Needy Around The World by IFEANYI - September 2018 Scholarship Essay
My name is Ifeanyi Michael Ukejianya, and I am an 18-year-old College student at Western New England. I am concentrating on my studies; the courses I am taking will give me the opportunities to reach my potential in life.
Over the summer I volunteered on a service trip with Bridges To The Community, it was a service trip to the Dominican Republic. I built three homes for the needy, which was an exhilarating life-changing experience for me and will help me with my career. I worked side-by-side with the people in the community building the houses. It gave me a sense of pride knowing that I was able to help someone. The best part of the trip was meeting the families that will live in the homes, seeing how excited they were. I change someone's life for the better was a pleasant experience. After that trip, I knew what I wanted to do with my future career as a mechanical engineer. The city that I live in housing has become very expensive, and a lot of residents are losing their homes. Twenty-five years from now I see myself with my business degree in mechanical engineering, volunteering building homes for the needy. I will also travel around the world volunteering my services to people in need of housing, and I will continue to learn about other cultures.
My dream is to be able to tie my mechanical engineering business degree with the knowledge I acquired in various activities and life experiences. Once I obtain my education, I will be able to impact society on a much larger scale and professional level.
