Stressed in 2020? Relax in 2021! by Hunter - December 2020 Scholarship Essay

Without a doubt, 2020 has been a significantly stressful year for everybody. COVID-19 has taken control of the world as an infectious disease that, at first, no one knew a way to escape from. And, as a student, I chose to stay at home from high school to avoid risking getting the virus, because I knew that getting it would jeopardize my future success as well as that of other students. Don’t just take my word for it, COVID-19 is something that is extremely stressful, especially because we have to deal with it every day.

As 2020 comes to a close, I am left thinking about a resolution that we should all think about: a New Year’s resolution for anybody that is currently dealing with stress during the COVID-19 pandemic: students, parents, teachers, and everybody else working tirelessly through these unpredictable times. Because of this, I would like to give you some advice that will help relieve your stress in 2021 and beyond. (Good advice surely relieves stress, doesn’t it?)

If you are at home, like a lot of people are, the next time you log on to yet another class online, or another chat with family members that you miss seeing in person, and you feel like you can’t take the isolation anymore, just breathe in and breathe out. You will be okay; we will get through this together. If you’re like me, you are tired of being stuck at home, or being away from the people you love or care about. I get it. Just know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel that we are all traveling through together.

In the end, I hope that you will feel less stressed out, and that you may finally be able to relax during the new year, because you matter. That is my New Year’s resolution to you. Good luck.
