Hunter Sansoucie Essay by Hunter - March 2019 Scholarship Essay
The transition from middle school to high can be very difficult. From higher expectations, moving into a bigger school, and dealing with more and new people can be very overwhelming. I had wished I was given more advice for when I was a freshman. Therefore, if I were leading a tour through high school to the members of the incoming freshmen class I would have a few pieces of advice.
The first piece of advice would be to tell them is to try not to be overly boastful and stay humble. I know for a lot of freshman, me included, thought we were awesome because we made it to high school. I just want to remind them that, yes they can be excited, but don’t have it be the cause that you step out of line. It is also important to know that they aren’t the only class here, we are a school family. All classes make up our success and accomplishments of our school.
Secondly, is to not expect all relationships or friendships to be the same throughout high school. Many things happen in high school causing people’s minds to grow and feelings change. This in return will change their relationships with people. The point is though is to not look at it as a bad thing, you will learn from each other, and that experience will them to make better decisions in the future.
The last piece of advice would be to join a club or sport. Part of enjoying high school is to have friends to help you through it, and get a chance to participate in something other than school work. Joining these activities helped me, personally, to make many friends that I got along with, and made high school enjoyable. There are so many clubs or teams to participate in. There will be something that will be of interest. The club I joined was the robotics team. I made so many friends being apart of it, and would not know these people without robotics bringing us together. I also learned new skills such as: time management, team work, communication, leadership and so much more. I think it is important for freshmen to join a club or sport to learn these skills, and to have the experience to participate in competition and maybe even travel. I know that being apart of the robotics team helped me grow so much as a person.
All in all, I enjoyed my time here at high school. I will never forget these experiences and all that I have learned. I hope that incoming freshmen will see that and understand that high school can be tough, but if they take some of my advice, that it can also be enjoyable.
