A Class That Lasts A Lifetime by Hunter - September 2017 Scholarship Essay

I never knew that taking a class could possibly change my life forever. I was in my senior year of high school and was currently dual enrolled at a nearby community college. I was just about to complete my final semester of high school and my advisor recommend I take a small business management class at the college. Thinking long and hard, I finally decided what would it hurt if I took this class, it was a transferable credit to Eastern Michigan University anyways.

Early in my senior year I found that I was going to college to pursue nursing. I always knew that I wanted to help others, and this was going to be my way of doing it. As I stated above, my advisor kept pushing me to take this small business management class, so I did.

This class made such a positive impact on my life, but most importantly it changed what I was going to pursue. The class focused on entrepreneurship and how we could help our communities grow and prosper. This instantly grasped my interest and I found a new passion. Entrepreneurship and business are the path I am choosing to take because it is going to be my way of helping others. My future plans include receiving my bachelors degree in supply chain management and work my job for 10-15 years. Originally, I planned to get my degree in entrepreneurship. But, as I met my instructor for the course, he turned into a friend and mentor. He guided me to pursue a stable job in the business field I enjoyed the most, excluding entrepreneurship. He told me over and over that the main reason entrepreneurs failed was because they rushed into their idea and ran out of financing. I am taking his advice. I will pursue a career in supply chain management, get the solid financial background I need, then pursue my dreams of owning and running my own business. I went on to receive the top award in my class as a high school student in a college class, but also spread my network.

Looking back I will forever be grateful for the people around me pushing me to take this elective as a class. It has helped me discover something I am very passionate about and help me accomplish my goal of helping others. This class will be something that will never leave me and will last a lifetime.
