Biggest passion by Hope - May 2023 Scholarship Essay

My biggest passion in life is medicine. My interest in medicine didn’t stem from the fact that I was obsessed with watching medical shows such as Grey’s Anatomy, or The Good Doctor, in middle school. I found my passion for medicine through my own experience with a series of doctor's visits, which left me in a near-life-threatening condition. Looking back at that experience, I’ve realized that I want to make an impact on my patients, by fully listening to their needs and concerns and helping the patient get better.

I aspire to be a physician. I plan on accomplishing my goal by majoring in Honors Sciences and the Humanities at Texas Tech University. By getting a Bachelor of Science degree in Honors Sciences & the Humanities, I hope to better understand intersections between health, healing, and the humanities. After that, I plan to attend Texas Tech’s medical school and continue my education to become a physician.

Throughout high school, I have been a part of numerous clubs and activities that will help me on my journey to becoming a doctor. My experience at the UIL State Congressional Competition taught me how to be a clear communicator. The band program at CHS taught me the importance of being a team player. The CHS Chaparrals taught me the importance of hard work. I have been a part of the CTE health program throughout my high school years. This spring I completed my CNA course and received my CNA certification. I plan on working as a CNA during college to gain experience in the healthcare field.

I will be the first in my family to graduate high school and a first generation college student. Receiving aid from this scholarship would ease the financial burden of going to college. I realize that several students are applying for this scholarship. However, I also acknowledge that my experiences and my knowledge have shaped me into the person I am today and ultimately help me stand out. Most importantly, it would help me achieve my dream of becoming a physician who truly cares about her patients.
