If you were a college professor, what class would you teach and why? by Hope - August 2017 Scholarship Essay

I love this essay topic because being a college professor is my ultimate career goal. I would love to teach introductory teaching classes to education majors. I want to inspire new teachers and share with them my wisdom and experience I have had in my classroom these past 13 years. There have been many rewarding yet challenging situations I wasn't prepared for. I want to be that teacher that even after my students are long gone I can still encourage and mentor.
We need good teachers. Being a teacher isn't easy. I want to prepare new teachers for the challenges that one can face and that they can be confident in every situation. I would like to open the eyes of education majors the realities of being a good teacher. There's a lot of love and a lot of discipline that teachers give on a daily basis. Good teachers changes lives. I'd like to teach others how to be a life changer. Teachers need a certain level of grit. I feel that many get into teaching with a distorted perception of what teachers go through. The sooner undergraduate student's eyes open up to the reality of the classroom the better and more effective teacher they will be.
