If I Were a Teacher by Hope - October 2016 Scholarship Essay
After 12 years of completed education, I have seen what it takes to be a teacher. Teachers must be dedicated to both the subject they teach and the students they teach. The job requires experience and interest in the subject that the teacher teaches. If the roles were reversed, I would choose to be a science teacher. This is because science is my strongpoint, my favorite subject, and something that interests me. In order to teach a subject well, one must be strong in that subject area. Science has become one of my strongest subjects throughout my high school career. I did not like science until I took more challenging courses such as chemistry and AP Biology. Science became a challenge that I enjoy! Because of this, I have been successful in my science classes. I would want to teach science because I could be confident in my teaching, since it is something I am good at.
Science is my favorite subject. In order to teach something, one must have a passion for it. I have grown to love science through experiences in high school. I enjoy learning about something that is going on within me and within the world I live in. For example, In AP Biology, I got in-depth education on systems in my body. These were systems such as the immune system, the endocrine system, and the nervous system. I enjoyed learning about certain processes occurring in my body everyday that I don’t even know are happening. It’s fascinating! In chemistry I learned a lot about different reactions that occur and why. It was also cool to try to grasp the concept that everything is made up of this tiny, tiny scientific material called atoms. Because of the fascination I get from science, I would be able to teach science in a fun and enthusiastic way. In order to teach a subject well, the teacher must be interested in what they are teaching. My love for science would allow me to be a successful teacher in this subject.
My growing interest for science would allow me to create a captivating classroom experience. For a teacher, they must be interested in what they are teaching. If the teacher is bored, then the students will be bored as well. This results in no learning being accomplished. If I had to teach a subject I would choose science because it is something that interests me. I would always be looking to further my knowledge and the knowledge of my students. The job of teaching is not an easy job. It requires passion for your subject and dedication to your students. Science is the subject in which I believe I could accomplish this best.
