Leadership In College by Holly - March 2015 Scholarship Essay
Absolutely I think that you need to have leadership skills in order to be really successful in college. You can get by without them, however it is a must in order to get the most out of your degree. If you sit back and just take the classes you don’t get as much out of it as would be beneficial.
You need to be able to speak up in class, even if you’re worried you may be wrong. It’s something most professors really appreciate. There are countless times in class whether it’s accounting or marketing, where there needs to be a leader in class. Someone to start off the conversation, or even just give the teacher the numbers to work on the problems on the board, without having to turn around. I have seen even simple requests ignored up until the point I answer because no one had the courage to even speak up.
Now, you can get through college without having leadership abilities. Ideally, your advisor would point this out to you some time before you graduate so you can try and make the changes necessary. It’s important to work out the kinks of leadership in college so in the real world you have a better idea of what to expect.
