United in Diversity: An Essay on Bridging Perspectives by Hnin - March 2024 Scholarship Essay

An incident, when I worked within a team that had a dissimilar view on something, but we delivered the project due to communication, still appears in my mind. At High School, there was a group task that I needed to work on with other students. Our responsibility was to come up with a Marketing activity that would be aimed to introduce a new product into the market.
Not unlike my other crew members, he was looking at this campaign in a completely new perspective, with the opposite idea and the different way of operating. From their stance, old-fashioned marketing techniques are inefficacious for this specific idea and I am on the contrary rooting for newer, bolder methods in marketing in general. When first I saw him I thought it was an absolute mismatch and therefore probably there were not so many things we had in common.
Paradoxically, we decided not to see interaction as a source of misjudgment and consequently division, but rather a means to learn more about each other. Firstly we focused on the essential aspects of active listening to one another, and on the appliance of small rhetorical tools in the given context. One of the most significant skills I have developed through the college experience is critical thinking. This skill helped me to explore the stimulus deeply and understand the things that drove me to take the personal position I identified with.
In the course of our team project we realized that the difference in opinion that prevailed among us in reality is a very resourceful asset, indeed, that enabled us to explore entirely different perspectives and find many ways in dealing with various challenges we faced. This was the first principle that was laid before us, and in a nutshell, the idea of traditional and innovative tools working together makes the campaign a huge success. Collaboration and harmony allowed us to design a compromise marketing policy where neither party would relinquish their style to the other.
In conclusion, having a strong presenter's team was possibly the most important element in this presentation that helped it reach further the bigger public through the personal approach. One of the most attractive things in the process was seeing how Zach and I from the first step till climax of our relationship grew stronger and our collaboration led to a fruitful and great project.
To be actually honest, my experience of going abroad to a different culture was a bit hard for me to adapt to because it was forcing me to be even though I did not want to: first of all, a more open-minded individual and secondly, a better communicator and understanding the need of different point of view needs. I did not just widen my sphere of preferences and reaching my comfort zone became the biggest growth instrument of my life, on the personal and the professional level. While undergoing this process, I realized that a discussion among differences can be an effective way to get new ideas and lead to satisfactory prosperity.
In the end, I realized that it didn’t matter how different or unique the others’ visions were, for indeed, it was that exact thing that boosted my own progress quickly. In addition to giving me this new realization, I acknowledged that dependence with such a world full of different views has so many lessons to offer. Moreover, it is absolutely necessary to point out how easier we’re communicating as a team the more we’re learning, not as individuals, but together.
