The Importance of Education by Heyre - October 2022 Scholarship Essay
Education is a luxury to many people including myself that a lot of children and adults living in underdeveloped nations do not have the opportunity to pursue. I believe that many students in more developed countries take education for granted. Education is essential especially for the younger generation to have a deeper understanding of the world around them. It helps them grow fundamentally and have better critical thinking skills. Having education is significant towards one’s future and their journey to adulthood.
Education has made me more knowledgeable about life and society. I have learned basic skills in literacy, math, and other subjects starting from a young age that I know will benefit me in college and the future. I use the certain information I learned through my past classes and apply it to my ongoing courses which helps me a lot. I continue to learn new, interesting things over my time going to school and as of today. There is numerous instances where people want to continue to grow their knowledge and learn topics that they are heavily interested in. It shows that they are passionate about education and want to keep themselves well informed about the current events happening in the world.
When I was younger, education also taught me valuable lessons about the way we should treat others and our own attitudes towards life. We should treat people with empathy and respect. We also need to take responsibility for our own actions while considering the fact that there could be consequences if we do not follow certain guidelines. No matter what, we should also try and stay committed to whatever we put our mind to like homework, tests, and assignments assigned by teachers. I believe that this being emphasized in my childhood has turned me into a better, sincere person. According to John Dewey, “Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.”
