I gotta learn how 2 pay my bills n stuff, like skool duznt teach u that stuff. idek y its a thing tbh.

And that, ladies and gentleman, is about where my thoughts were a year ago. But I bet reading that, you were thinking, “Well, that is why we have school.” That argument, if you can even call it that, completely lacked in grammar, rhetoric, and intellectual stimulation. If someone had told me how insufficient that is a year ago, I’m not sure I would have cared. All throughout my educational career, teachers have told me that I need to get good grades. Take Honors classes. Take AP classes. I did it, but I had no idea why I was doing it. The common answer would be to learn things, but that really was never the long-term effect. Sure, for a short period of time, I could tell you why the Ming Dynasty was so important to the rest of the world. But I forgot. It wasn’t until I took a non-AP or -Honors core class that I realized what I gained. Taking taxing courses made other courses (even the taxing courses themselves) easier. I had much better study techniques and was able to concentrate considerably better in class. The sneaky thing about taking classes that are challenging - or doing anything challenging - is that it builds your endurance.
The best piece of advice I have for you is to challenge yourself. Do not dance through life by taking the easy roads and living on low expectations. Diligent people are difficult to come by; therefore, they are highly valuable and tremendously appreciated. Education is a major factor in deciding whether or not to hire a potential employee; work ethic is a major factor in deciding whether or not to keep that employee. I have a job at a local bowling alley, and after many months of working there, I’ve seen many employees let go due to their poor integrity while on and off the clock. Work ethic will get you far, and what better way to begin developing it than at school? Not only will you build great habits, but your grades will improve and your transcript and resume will appear increasingly impressive as you grow your repertoire of skills. Diligence doesn’t only apply to school and work. You should work hard for your relationships, your hobbies, your goals in life. By starting now, your diligence will have positive repercussions in every aspect of your life. So I challenge you to challenge yourself. Do you accept?
