"Thinking Outside of The Box" by hayley - October 2018 Scholarship Essay
Thinking outside of the box could mean multiple different things to everyone, but to me it means going above and beyond, going out of your comfort zone, coming up with ideas to overcome a problem, or be creative.
Thinking outside of the box can be a very difficult thing to do for some people because it’s a personal challenge to do things you’re not comfortable with. I once had to come up with an idea on how to increase commitment to extracurricular activities. It was very challenging but with brainstorming with my peers and lots of outside if the box ideas we managed to come up with a well thought up list of ways to improve commitment numbers.
When Thinking outside of the box you need to execute your ideas well. Going above and beyond will allow you to do that, an example would be if you are trying to teach a group of kids with a wide variety of ages you will need to come up with a way to present the information in a way they will understand. Whether its creating an acronym, or even a song. But with a thinking outside of the box plan it will be possible.
To be some professions, you need the outside of the box mentality such as an artist, architect, interior designers, etc. This is the creative part of thinking outside of the box, this allows you to visualize and see things most people can’t but allows you to use your skills within a community and the world.
Thinking outside of the box can mean so many things but going above and beyond, out of your comfort zone, and being creative is what it means to me.
