Dinner with the Father of our Country by Hayley - October 2017 Scholarship Essay

George Washington was the father of our country and helped to establish the great democracy that has lasted for over two hundred years. George Washington was a fearless leader and served in the American military as a general, leading troops to victory several times. Modern presidents today are professional politicians. They have never been in the military and have not experienced the feelings that occur when it is vital to protect their fellow men.
Washington helped to establish the United States democracy. He was the only president to ever have been elected by unanimity and he easily could have become a king and turned our government into a monarchy. However, when his four years of his second term as president was up and the people wanted him to continue being their leader, he refused and went to Mt. Vernon to retire. Here he lived out the remainder of his days.
He was nicknamed the father of our country for a reason. He believed in fighting for his values, protecting his peoples' rights, and getting an education. He was a significant part of our nation's history and I would love to meet him and hear his thoughts on how our country has both lasted and changed up until today.
