From shy to courageous by Harvey - March 2015 Scholarship Essay
The life of a full-time college student can be mentally and physically demanding at times. From the countless hours of your mind ravaging the information you just tried to comprehend, to the mileage you just put your body through while scaling campus. I believe leadership skills are extremely beneficial to college success but are not detrimental to weather one would be successful, my belief stands due to my personal college experience.
Imagine you’re walking on campus at Henry Ford College and you see a student with a back-pack full of books going nowhere and going fast. I was not confident in any decisions I made on my own, I had to have every class pointed to me directly in order to get there, I lacked leadership, and confidence was my worst enemy. In the end I still was successful thorough my first two years of college. As life progressed, I matured. I felt like I shifted more into the leadership and confident Harvey, even in class groups I seemed to take the lead and communicate better with professors and students while consistently improving my learning experience. I wouldn’t be intimidated to speak in front of the class or to present a project. That is the main reason why I feel like leadership skills are extremely beneficial but are not necessary for success.
