Clutter by Hannah - January 2016 Scholarship Essay
My one resolution for this year was to de-clutter my life. For as long as I can remember, there has always been too much. Too much stress, too much stuff, too much going on in my life. So I decided to streamline everything.
I am currently in the process of cutting everything that is unnecessary to my health and happiness out of my life. Even after just having removed excess clothing there is a noticeable difference. It is so much easier to keep things neat when they aren’t overflowing.
I also cleared off my desk and organized my school things. I’ve noticed that I keep track of what needs to be done a lot better than I have in the past, because there isn’t a surplus of useless papers and old assignments that I just didn’t take the time to clear off.
Additionally, I am severing unhealthy relationships. I had noticed that some of my acquaintances were attempting to get me to “cut loose” and be less of a nerd. I enjoy learning, and school will play a vital role in my future. I don’t need people in my life who aren’t going to support my goals, so I chose to stop talking to those people.
One of the biggest reasons that I chose this resolution is that I kept catching myself thinking things like “Tomorrow I’ll get my life in order,” or “I’ll be happy next week.” The problem with that is if I keep thinking like that, I’ll always think like that, and I’ll never get around to really living my life. So with this resolution, with this New Year, I’ll get my life together and live it to the fullest.
