The Value of Education by Hannah - November 2015 Scholarship Essay

Education is one of the most valuable things a person can receive, because it can never be taken away from them. Being able to receive a free public education has made society richer in innovation and has created a more equal playing field for those less fortunate than others. However, though a teacher can easily teach a student, the student must take this opportunity and use it to their advantage. To me, this proves that the most important aspect of education, and the one I am most thankful for, is the opportunity to bring one's dreams into fruition.
Without the education I have received, I would not feel as confident in myself. School has created an outlet I can use to practice time management, stay informed about the world, and develop social skills. All these traits are important life skills that one can advocate to their advantage so they can remain an informed citizen, and take into the workforce. Such skills create a head start into being prepared for the future.
Education also provides plentiful opportunities for achieving a professional career. Every career requires training or a degree to some extent, so furthering education directly coincides with one's livelihood. Since I have received so many great classes and have learned the rewarding outcome of surpassing a challenge, it has made me realize that I want to study forensic science. This not only effects me ensuring a future career, but also discovering a passion. That is what education offers everyone, the ability to realize whether they want to be a doctor, or an engineer, or a journalist, and be able to achieve this goal. Education is the first step in finding a greater purpose in life.
The power of knowledge can inspire and free people from whatever adversity they may face. By putting forth the effort, one can be given many different opportunities, and from them build the life that they desire. The freedom of choice is what education provides, allowing anyone from anywhere to innovate, and create, and grow. The beauty of education is that it all depends on how the individual decides to use it and make the most out of it.
